2017-2018 Skiing Vail for our Tenth Entire Season and our Eighteenth Season Skiing Somewhere in the World

Boy, this ski season was slow to start. The opening was delayed because of lack of snow until November 22nd, reducing the total number of available ski days from 150 to 145. Then only one run and one lift were open. So in November, we skied only one day.

We were in great shape; we'd been going to our gym at the Four Seasons Resort Vail and using aerobic and weight machines. We'd also been hiking with microspikes (Kahtoolas) because of the mud. We'd been able to do only one snowshoe in December and that was up at Tennessee Pass (10400' elevation) on a day when Vail reported one new inch of snow and there were around 4 inches of new snow up there.

Oh well, we were enjoying socializing and all of the restaurant discounts around town. Have a look at our post about our blow out omakase meal at Matsuhisa. We, ever the optimists, were hoping for a great ski season on Dimitri's newly straightened leg.

Now in January 2018, it's still the slowest start to any of our 18 entire seasons skiing somewhere in the world. But we have been out there whenever there was new snow and some days when we were only skiing groomers or on manmade snow.

I think we're having fun even with little snow

And here's another snap of us

And we're still enjoying

We were skiing with Vail Club 50 too.

We got snow during the week of January 8 so we were out skiing every day that week (making up for lost ski productivity). On Tuesday and Thursday with Vail Club 50 in Vail and on the other days by ourselves.

Our Vail Club 50 ski group on Jan. 11, 2018: Carol, Ed, Barbara, MJ, Audre, Dimitri, Our Leader Suzette, Ann, Jesse, Morris, Elliott

On Wednesday the 10th of January, when it was actually snowing, we led a snowshoe near Tennessee Pass for Vail Club 50. We had 18 sign up and 15 show. It was glorious! The trail was called Lily Lake Loop off of Lake County Rd. #19.
The Vail Club 50 snowshoe we led at Lily Lake with actual snow! That's David, Steve, Laurie, Linda, Dean, Ricki, Judi, Nancy, Carol, Dave, Dimitri, Audre, Nancy and Rick

On February 6, a day with 11 new inches of snow we led a Vail Club 50 blue-black-bumpers group. It was fabulous.
