Dimitri tested his new knee when we skied November 10th, the opening day of the 2023-24 season He was HAPPY! When we returned from our Malaysian Festive Season Sojourn in January, we enjoyed the snow that finally arrived in gobs. Of course, we had doctors appointments on the days that Vail got 11 inches of snow. In any event, we enjoyed Vail when we skied and it wasn't crowded.
Our February-March getaway, when the crowds for President's Day/Spring Break take over Vail, was to ski on Hokkaido Island in Japan. At the 43rd parallel, we would be skiing up near Vladivostok which seemed to be very far north. But, in 2023, we skied Whitefish, Montana which is at the 48th parallel. And, there was not enough snow at Whitefish! We discovered in 2024 that at the 43rd parallel didn't have enough snow either. There certainly wasn't the legendary Japow--Japanese powder. It may have been the most disappointing sojourn of our entire lives. And, it was so expensive!
When we returned to Vail in March we enjoyed the skiing in Vail and we skied up to and including closing day, April 21st. The hotel where we live, The Four Seasons Hotel and Residences Vail, closed for almost a month in April and we had it to ourselves (and endured the construction noise).
