In March, we left Tignes for two days to go to Lyon. Audre's permission to stay in France was going nowhere. We had to go to Lyon to the Consule Honoraire de la République Hellénique à Lyon to get an Acte of Concordance for Dimitri's name (don't ask for more details or look at the previous post). Going to Lyon in March was a good getaway for us. Along the route, the cherry blossoms were in full bloom, along with a flowering tree with white flowers that might have been a serviceberry. The crocuses and the daffodils were blooming, and the city looked good. If it weren't for the construction everywhere, we would have been very happy to be back in Lyon again. Because of the construction, we parked our car and took Ubers instead.
We stayed two nights at the Villa Maia and didn't like it at all. If you read our TripAdvisor Review, you will understand why. It was good we stayed there, however, because we looked at the suite where we might have stayed for two weeks at the end of April. It was awful at €1000 a day.
We had happily stayed at Villa Florentine in 1998--we remembered it fondly. When we walked into the absolutely gorgeous lobby, the reception staff and the concierge greeted us warmly. We told them we were looking for our accommodation for two weeks in April, and we were treated wonderfully. For €1000 per day (including breakfast and parking), we booked the 2-bedroom Saint-Antoine apartment.
While in Lyon, in addition to getting the Acte de Concordance, we went to a Tuesday morning coffee gathering of the American Club of Lyon. We had a lovely time and met lovely people.
For lunch, we went to Les Halles de Lyon Paul Bocuse and had delicious tiny telline clams and a soupe de poisson. For our dinner the second night, we went to a 2-Michelin-starred restaurant, La Mère Brazier, and had a perfect meal.
