Dimitri planned our stay in Europe without realizing that in retaliation for US visa rules, the countries of the Schengen Area of the European Union limited the length of visas for US citizens to 90 days. He wanted to stay 4 months in Europe--from May to September. So Dimitri found a solution. Croatia is a member of the European Union but not part of the Schengen Area. That meant that we could stay a month in Croatia and it would not count in the 90 permission to stay in the Schengen Area. We would spend our 90-day visa in Slovenia, Italy and in Greece.
During the month of June 2019, we were in Croatia. We drove from Udine back to Ljubljana and returned our rental car--no muss, no fuss. That was the last time in Europe that we had no rental car problems. We took another Flixbus from Ljubljana to Zagreb, notwithstanding the disaster our first Flixbus trip was. During the month of May, the weather was cold and uncomfortable in Italy and Slovenia. By early June, the weather turned pretty and warm. We had a nice month in Croatia.
