2021 December: Our First 6-day stay in Bangkok

At the airport we were met by the Four Seasons representative and then whisked away in the Four Seasons limousine to the hotel. At the front door waiting for us were Lubosh Barta, the General Manager and Jasjit Assi (JJ) the Hotel Manager. We really like that kind of attention. O-Shin, from guest relations,  took us to our executive one bedroom suite. At about 1400 sq. ft., it was huge and well-laid out. Our view of the Chao Phraya River was partially obscured by the building in front of ours. That really bothered Dimitri so we asked for a better view in the building that is next to the river for our second stay in January. There was a second toilet which is really good for us. We had to have engineering work on the air conditioning system to make it function properly. Eventually it did. We needed multiple extension cords and power stripes because there weren’t enough outlets for our laptops, cell phones and for Alexa. We needed to have IT help us with the Bose bluetooth. Unfortunately IT never did get the TV Chromecast working so the IT fellow brought us a long cable (that he had gone out and bought)! We finally settled in and around 5:30 pm we were brought a multi-tiered canapĂ© plate with very tasty morsels. It was delivered with a carafe of tea. So we opened a bottle of wine and drank to our good fortune.

During the time we were in Bangkok the Omicron variant was surging and the rules for entry to Thailand changed and became more restrictive. By the time we arrived in Bangkok, we had already been in the country for a month so the new rules did not affect us. Our first dinner in Bangkok was a disappointment. After our first night, we needed the mattress topper on the bed changed and the pillows changed too. The first ones were too firm for us. All of the changes that we wanted were implemented with no problem.

We went to the breakfast buffet on our first morning and it was extensive and very, very good. We had the table facing the Chao Phraya River and had a lovely breakfast. We didn’t like the pounding beat of the rock music at all so we asked to have the volume lowered. It never was but we learned that on other patios the music was not so loud. We didn’t have as good a view of the river but we had a more enjoyable breakfast. The longer we stayed the staff became more attuned to our habits. Breakfast with the staff showering attention on us was fun!

On Saturday, we went to World Tailor to have slacks made for Audre (to replace the ones that were stolen in Europe). Jay, the concierge, had recommended that World Tailor. Audre found fabric that she liked there and the tailor said she could have a fitting on Tuesday and that the slacks would be delivered to the hotel on Wednesday. We would be able to take the slacks to Chiang Mai when we left on Thursday.

On Saturday night we had a fabulous, really perfect meal at R-HAAN, a 2 Michelin-starred restaurant. Click here to read about it (so fabulous it has it’s own blog post!)

On Sunday we had a list of things we wanted to discuss with JJ, the Hotel Manager and he arrived on Monday at our suite promptly and listened attentively. He was quite charming and responsive.
