2009 Apo Island, Negros Oriental, Central Visayas, The Philippines

Only 100 meters from Thalatta was the Malatapay pier where we hired a bangka to take us to Apo Island for Php 1700. We were the only ones on it and it waited for us all day. We paid Php 200 admission and Php 100 snorkeling fee (both for the 2 of us).

We rented equipment on Apo Island at the dive shop at Liberty's Lodge called Paul's Dive shop for the negotiated price of Php 300 for the 2 of us. They let us use a room at Liberty's Lodge to change. It was below basic (no running water for instance).

The Apo Island Marine Reserve & Fish Sanctuary is great. There is excellent visibility and the coral is not too deep. That makes seeing it easy. It is varied, colorful and the coverage is great. It is not as great as our experience at Bunaken off of Minado in Northern Sulawasi but it was much better than anything we've see anywhere else.
