2009 Tsuen Wan & Sham Tseng, Hong Kong Restaurant Reviews by ALEDM

We've posted all of our reviews of the restaurants we went to in Tsuen Wan, New Territories, and the neighboring town of Sham Tseng on the HungryGoWhere website. Click here to see the reviews. And we've done a 2009 Metropolitan Hong Kong, SAR, China, Restaurant Review by ALEDM posting that of course includes Tuen Wan and Sham Tseng; click here to have a look at that.

We lived in Tsuen Wan in July and August 2009 during which several of the restaurants around town had lobster (from Maine in the USA) on promotion. We couldn't believe the low prices. It was fabulous.

The lobster was HK$58 at Federal Restaurant on August 12, 2009 (that's US$7.53). It was absolutely spectacularly delicious and one was enough for the two of us. (Federal Restaurant, Shop 18, Level 3, Discovery Park Shopping Center, 398 Castle Peak Road, Tsuen Wan, N.T. Tel. 2626-0883, web: http://www.federalrestaurant.hk/)

A couple of nights in July 2009 we had a delicously prepared lobster for HK$98 (that's a reasonable HK$12.72) at Victoria Harbour Restaurant Group, 2/F, Emperor Plaza, 55 Chung On Street, Tsuen Wan, N.T., tell: 2668-1892, web: http://www.hoikonghk.com.hk/. The lobster was stir fried with green onion, garlic and ginger.

Each time we found the lobster, it was "on promotion" and by looking at the posters outside of the restaurant we gleened what was going on.

Another time we found stir fried crab on promotion for HK$1! While the crab was a little too dry but sweet enough. We were so astounded at the price, we gobbled it up. This was at Ocean Super Seafood, City Landmark I, 5/F, Shop A, 68 Chung On St., Tsuen Wan, N.T., Tel. 2940-7838.

When we wanted to dine al fresco, we took the bus to the next town, called Sham Tseng Village. We ate there about five times: at Kcal for European cuisine and the best value lunch we have ever had; Chan Kee Roasted Goose for (what else) roasted goose; Sai Ji Kau for Japanesse, Vietnam Kitchen for Vietnamese; the Indian restaurant and Lucky Dessert for (again what else) dessert. We loved eating outside when it was cool enough.

We loved the caterer at an event we went to at Osage Gallery. The food was really excellent, canapes with real-tasting pesto sauce and cheese for instance. The staff that was circulating the tidbits was attentive and friendly. The caterer was Dine-atHome.com (1/f, U-C Court, 25 Stanley Market Road, Stanley, Hong Kong) and the contact name is Stefan Heroz (mobile: 9107-7744, Tel. 2813-7257 and e-mail: stefan@dine-athome.com).
