We luxuriated at the Four Seasons Vail Resort & Residences during the lockdown, then Vail and Eagle Valley opened wearing masks and physical distancing on July 1, 2020. Our Governor Polis encouraged everyone to get outside and recreate, so we did.
Another favorite activity of the lockdown era was ZOOMing
It was okay to recreate outside with other people during the lockdown and also with mooses in Vail.
Dimitri and the moose that liked to hang around the back of the Four Seasons Vail
And we did a lot of biking that summer. That was the last year that we led hiking and e-mountain biking groups for Vail Club 50. It was too much of a pain in the ass (and so were the participants, frankly).
So, what was it like in Vail during the summer of 2020? IT WAS CROWDED! Audre went to the first Vail Farmer's Market of the season and was HORRIFIED. Too many people were too close and it was scary. That was the last farmer's market that she went to that summer.
The Four Seasons Vail was CROWDED. The Town of Vail was CROWDED. Hiking trails that we used to have to ourselves were no longer ours. The Eagle Valley was seeing an influx of people like never before.
Eagle County managed COVID well and things settled down with crowds wearing masks and physical distancing. We felt we were lucky to be in a well-run county (and in our privileged bubble, retired and not having to worry about working).
