2024 Spring in Vail

The Four Seasons Vail closed (again) for renovations from April 26th to May 24th. During that time we had the place to ourselves, except for the workers. The really awful noise was not from the hotel's renovations. Instead it was from 8202 where core drilling was being done.

We spent our time on our 2024 home improvements (as we did in 2022). We are very happy with the new carpeting and the cleaning/sealing of our granite and marble, as well as our new sound system and new cookware. We seemed to be having a cascade of problems, however. Our fancy-schmancy Wolf/Sub Zero refrigerator-freezer stopped working while we were in Santa Fe. Our Resort Manager (the only one around because the hotel was closed) cleaned them out and saved what he could (an amazing amount, actually). During the hotel closure, our refrigerator was on the 3rd floor in the main hotel kitchen. We also had mini fridges from hotel rooms in our apartment. In  Audre's opinion, having an easily accessible refrigerator is as important as easily accessible indoor plumbing. Never thought of it before. Always took it for granted. We should also mention that living in a hotel with staff to help us is fantastic. We can't imagine being totally on our own anymore.

When the hotel re-opened the Executive Chef had a stand-alone refrigerator brought to our apartment. A local appliance repair person came and diagnosed the problem with our Sub Zero: the microprocessor needed to be replaced. Two weeks after it stopped working our Sub Zero had a new microprocessor, control pad and starter relay for the compressor! Everything: the diagnostic visit, the labor, parts and the visit by American Appliance from near Denver—was paid for by Wolf. The $41 starter relay failure caused the microprocessor and control pad to fail. Now isn’t that impressive engineering?

The next thing to happen, at our hot tub, was that the wind swept our robes into the hot tub. Our phones were in our robe pockets. The illusory rice method to dry the phones actually worked and they got going again. But we ordered 2 new Google pixel 8a phones which arrived and  worked.

Our trip to Santa Fe for 5 days during the carpet replacement and the granite/marble work was a success. We stayed at Ojo Caliente in a very nice suite and enjoyed the semi-private hot tub near the suite. We then went to Santa Fe and stayed at the Hotel Santa Fe The Hacienda & Spa, also in a suite. We had our e-mountain bikes with us and had a wonderful ride on the rail trail, starting from the railroad station across the street from our hotel. We ate well and we were happy. The 5 hour trip started out with snow but in Santa Fe the weather was warm and lovely in the middle of May.

We are so done with problems and are hoping for a reprieve and a little luck.

Our last home improvement to be completed was to put a glass top on our signature dining room table. It must have been awful for the first painter to see his work behind a glass frame. The table is kind of like that for us--artwork under glass.
