2009 White Beach, Saavedra, Moalboal, Cebu, Central Visayas, The Philippines

The final resort we stayed at in the Visayas was Club Serena, White Beach, Saavedra, Moalboal, Cebu. It was definitely upscale and more of a resort than any of the other places we stayed in the Central Visayas. (Club Serena Resort, Brgy, Saavedra, White Beech, Moalboal, Cebu, Tel. (63-32) 474-0050, http://www.clubserenaresort.com/)

We had to move three times during our 10-day stay because our chosen cottage was booked for part of the period. Dimitri was able to negotiate a rate of Php 3000 per day (instead of Php 3600) without breakfast (which was about Php 600). It was clearly going to be our most expensive accommodation in the Visayas and we were hoping for a grand finale to our beach vacation in the Philippines.

The first thing we loved about Club Serena was that they provide Thermoses of hot and cold water when we arrived, along with a welcome drink and cake. Our first cottage was Treetop 1 and it was well designed, high in the trees, with a large deck. There was a couch and table on the deck, as well as in the room. We had cable TV with all of the channels we wanted, air conditioning and hot water. Unfortunately the resort has no Internet at all. On the advice of our friends at Eden Resort Liloan, we bought a Globe T@ttoo modem to connect to the Internet at Club Serena.

We went on an aquaholics.com diveboat with two other couples from Club Serena to Pescador Island and Kasai reef off of the resort by the same name. We were glad that we rented wetsuits (we did not get cold nor did we get bit by jellyfish). This was well organized and enjoyable.

The meals at Club Serena are another matter. There is generally a long wait, even after pre-ordering at a specific time. Many times the kitchen was out of items on the menu. We think that the restaurant was desparately in need of a manager.

Our second cottage at Club Serena was Caritas 1. It wasn't a good room because we could hear and feel the people above us in Caritas 2 when they walked around. Fortunately we were in that room only one night.

Our chosen room was Beachfront Cottage and it was better than the prior 2 rooms. We stayed there for six nights and had a very nice time.

  1. Hi there. Been reading your posts for a while and found them to be interesting. Its nice that you find Phils part of your adventures - whether it was pleasant or not. We've been to Moalboal and we loved the place. In fact, I wanna go back there and stay overnight - perhaps at Club Serena. I was hoping you have pictures, too. So sorry about the restaurant. That resort is actually owned by I think the Governor of Cebu. :) Tsk tsk. :)
